Sounds like how I would breed up Totodiles and Torchics with Rock Slide.

And then cackle to myself.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

For the record, I'm really only getting the Eevee set for the sake of filling my Dex - so I'm totally happy to trade evolved Eevees for stuff. If you have Y, then Kabuto and Omanyte would be well received.

I agree fully. I recommend always carrying at least one Escape Orb (two is good: one to use, one for those cases where you forget to restock your inventory) and multiple Sleep/Paralysis Orbs.

Catching Z was fun: I forgot to bring a dedicated capture team or anything, so I wandered in with Zigzagoon (to smash rocks), Talonflame (to fly out of there afterwards), Pangoro (I had been training it up), Gardevoir (likewise), and I can't actually remember the other two. Also, as Dragon/Ground, it's immune to T-Wave*.

It was a little tricky, but fun - constantly swapping about so it'd waste Earthquakes on Talonflame (immune) and Dragon Pulses on Gardevoir (immune), using Baby Doll Eyes and Confide to give it -6 to both attack stats, Body Slamming paralysis onto it then False Swiping down to 1 HP before throwing Dusk Balls.

Given how many others had been a simple case of "Throw ball, no weakening", "T-Wave, ball" or "Swipe, ball", it really changed things up. That said, I do suggest actually taking a proper capture team with a strong False Swiper, lots of balls, and ideally, a Flying/Levitating Fairy. I don't even know if there is such a thing. I suppose you could just suck up its Crunch and make do with Dragon-Resist and Ground-Immune via Skarmory.

*Until it uses Camouflage to turn into pure Rock type. Waiting for that is probably easier than trying to fluke it with Body Slam.

All my DS games and prior appear to be stolen by movers. I have XY, but that's it :-(

When Pokebank comes out, could anyone be nice enough to hook me up with some cloned ubers and eventmons from Pokecheck et al? I can't really offer you anything in return but my thanks.

Also I've been playing a lot on Showdown. On a false name because I skipped the whole BW generation. My rating is crap (only at like 1778), but I figure that playing actual battles is probably the best way to learn the two generations of pokemon that I skipped. So far I recognize now 60% of what I see.

Unfortunately, Nintendo has designed PokéBank to not be able to transfer "cheated" Pokémon, solely to further make me wish something terrible would happen to the GameFreak staff.

This doesn't really mean anything. The stuff on Pokecheck I'd have people snag is indistinguishable at the binary level from "legit" Pokemon -- and most of them actually are legit Pokemon, just RNGed. The only difference is they're cloned.

Nintendo has been getting more and more sneaky in their attempts to thwart people from having good things (their most brilliant scheme was making Japan). So you never know...

Somewhat relatedly: Y'know that little blue pentagon that's on the Pokémon's stat screen?
serebii.net wrote: A thing that has been in question for a while since the launch of the game has been clarified. In the status screen for Pokémon, and seen in trades and in the box, you may have noticed a blue pentagon next to your Pokémon. The meaning of this had yet to be determined, but has been partially revealed today. This pentagon is a confirmation of being obtained in-game. If your Pokémon has this, it confirms it was obtained legitimately in-game or through event. If not, then it has an error and has been hacked, or potentially from another region.
The literal definition of this pentagon, given by the Pokémon Company, is that the Pokémon is ok to use. This came from the rules of the upcoming Dragon tournament in Japan where, on looking deeper into the fine print, it is stated that Pokémon that were transferred from Black, White, Black 2 & White 2 cannot be used. There is a possibility that the mark could be for Pokémon obtained natively in the Kalos region, with other marks for Pokémon transferred, but this will not be made clear until December 25th when Pokémon Bank is released
The bolded bits makes me want to scream. I don't participate in tournaments, but it's the principal of the matter.

The person behind serebii.net is extremely stupid when it comes to anything related to "hacking", RNGing, how pokemon are stored on disk, etc. The current best guess by the guys who have decoded the Gen 6 pokemon file format is that it's a region marker (Kalos, etc.).

It could very well just be a simple legality check in the form of "Is there anything actually impossible about this?"

And yeah, if you use a Gameshark/AR to unlock the event for Darkrai, then catch Darkrai with one of your 999 Master Balls, then you can transfer forward to BW, then from BW to Bank, and there is nothing "illegal" about it. It will trigger klaxons and death robots if any of the following is true:
  • It has IVs outside of the 0-31 range
  • It has more than 510 EVs total or 255 in any one stat
  • It has any moves it could not know (including prior generations, egg moves etc. - so Bellyzard is legit - but it might check for combinations that are impossible, not sure of this one)
  • It has actual base stats different for its species
  • It has an Ability that it shouldn't actually have (herpa derp Spiritomb with Wonder Guard - not that anyone cares any more, because aside from the many ways to get around it, now we have Fairy Type)
  • The caught/hatched/met/original-trainer thing is not legit (such as if Darkrai was Caught on Route 12)
So they can make the whole thing very hard and annoying, but as long as you use hacks to simply get things which are extremely improbably, it's good to go. You should even be able to get shinies through (as long as your hack made it shiny by setting its shiny value to equal your trainer shiny value rather than actually changing the palette).

Also, people have managed to beat the 3DS encryption. People have found Mega-Lati@s (although that means they can't carry Soul Dew...) and the three special hidden ones. Nintendo: you cannot win.

The Ability thing is a bit sad, as there are heaps of pokemon that would be excellent... if only they didn't have a shitty ability. I don't even mean "Truant Slaking", but things like Weavile (Pressure on a glass cannon? Pickpocket?* Really?) and "Most Starters" (Blaze/Torrent/Overgrow... not that great. Sure, Hidden Abilities can give you stuff like Speed Boost, Bulletproof or Protean, or they could give you Magician, which would be great on something that isn't Delphox)

Also I was three quarters of the way through EV training Pupitar, and then I bothered to actually look at the nature: Bold. As in "You don't need attack, right?" :|

So I'm going to breed one with a better nature. And while I'm at it, she can fuck my Haxorus and give the baby Dragon Dance.

*It can be cute on a Fling set I suppose.

I as fuckin' over the moon on RSE when my Groudon turned out to have a lonely nature. In Heart Gold, I bred Eevees until I got one with a Rash nature. Then made it an Espeon.

Natures really should have just been a flavor thing that have nothing to do with stats.

EDIT: clarified.

I agree. Just having the nature as a cute little trait would be awesome. Maybe it could influence how it acts in PokeAmie or when it follows you around in HGSS like it should in all fucking games ever.

Espeon is currently considered best Eeveelution. Not the normal one of course, the Hidden Ability one. Because it gets Magic Bounce, so enemies throw Spikes onto their own side, Taunt themselves, etc.

Incidentally, does Heracross actually have any moves that benefit from Skill Link other than that crappy Normal type one with only 85% accuracy? I'm trying to understand why in the fuck Megacross has Skill Link. Does it get Rock Blast or Icicle Spear somehow?

Never mind, I was looking at an older dex listing. It now gets Arm Thrust (Fighting), Bullet Seed (Grass), Fury Attack (Normal) and Pin Missile (Bug) by level, and Rock Blast by breeding. Which sounds like something that really should happen, to flatten those Flying types it takes x4 damage from. I could happily run a set with Pin Missile/Arm Thrust/Rock Blast/Close Combat.

why have close combat when you have arm thrust already?

-Pin Missile
-Arm Thrust
-Rock Blast
-Bullet Seed

Has great coverage
Watch out for them steel ghosts though.

Close Combat is for hitting someone really hard once. But I suppose that might not be necessary.

Arm Thrust covers:
-Normal
-Dark
-Steel
-Rock
-Ice
(And gets STAB, so total power goes from 75 to 112)
Rock Blast (total 125 strength) covers:
-Flying (very important)
-Fire (pretty handy)
-Ice as well
-other Bugs
Pin Missile covers:
-Dark as well
-Psychic (excellent)
-Grass
(And gets STAB, taking power from 125 to 187)

Bullet Seed gives me strength 125 super-effective hits against Rock, Water and Ground, so I suppose that could be the final move. It's weird that its Fighting move, even with STAB, is the weakest, but I suppose it's still over 100 before factoring in effectiveness.

I've been a-playin' quite a bit of Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky lately, and there's just two things I have to say about it:

1. Best Mystery Dungeon game by far.

2. Wonder Mail Generator for the Big Fucking Win!

Awesome. And yes, that is the best Mystery Dungeon - 3d version only has the benefits of:
1. Shops/farms to set up and give you good stuff
2. Levelling your moves up to be stronger/more accurate (did Sky already have this?) - and XP/level is tracked for the move, so anyone else on your team with the move gets the benefits too.
3. Fewer Monster Houses

I'm hatching a spare Tyranitar with Dragon Dance if anyone wants it. No gauarantee about what its IVs or Nature will be.

Also, it's a bit sad with Kangaskhan's mega-evo: it doesn't deal the move twice at full strength. So Double Team won't give you 2 levels of evasiveness, because it uses the move once. And if you use Bite, you do Bite twice (with two Flinch chances, I believe), but the baby hits at significantly lower strength. On the other hand, Bulldoze will lower the enemy Speed twice, and Power Up Punch will raise your Attack twice. So basically, we're looking at it specialising in "moves that hit the enemy and cause an effect". Also handy for breaking Substitutes. And if you were amazingly lucky you could hit ten times with Comet Punch.

Edit: fresh rumours on mega-Lati@s say M-Latios has 180 for both attack stats, remains Psychic/Dragon, and I can't remember the Ability. M-Latias apparently gets Multiscale, becomes Fairy/Dragon and has 180 for defences.

Sadly, Sky does not have the leveling move thing. But it's still awesome.

Regarding MegaLatiosmon/MegaLatiasmon... is there any info on how/when you get them? Will they be event Pokémon, like MegaBlazikenmon? Will Nintendo deny the rest of the world this gift, like they do with so much else?
